Keep in mind that there are no English audio or subtitle options. The second film’s chapters are broken up a bit more evenly as that story isn’t as clearly separated into distinct stories like with Part 1. The “Ami” chapter is only about 11 minutes and the “Rei” chapter is about 12. This isn’t perfect again because some of them are shorter than others.

The disc’s menu has chapter markers which more or less break the movies up into single episode Acts, like with the TV series.

This doesn’t mean this is one movie or that it was always intended as one movie as there are still ending and opening credits, but we could easily have had separate video tracks for these. Interestingly enough the two movies are just one long video track of this Blu-ray.

I quite enjoyed them and you can read my more in depth thoughts in my full reviews of Part 1 and Part 2. There isn’t much on this except for the two Sailor Moon Eternal films. There’s a Blu-ray of the films, a Blu-ray disc of bonus features and two audios CD soundtracks, one for each of the movies.ĭisc 1! The movies. This isn’t a standard DVD or Blu-ray sized box but instead something the size of a laserdisc or LP jacket. The set itself comes with a really beautiful package. In retrospect I enjoyed the box art so much that perhaps a nice print of it would have been worthwhile, but it’s a bit late for this! There were a number of vendor exclusive versions of this release which differed amongst retailers and while I got the release from Amazon Japan I opted not to pay the cchionsiderable extra cost on top of the already high price tag for these exclusives. I picked up the limited edition Blu-ray, which I’ll be discussing in this post. Still the limited edition Blu-ray and DVD have a number of nice features fans may be interested in checking out. Less useful internationally as many countries are streaming the films on Netflix with English audio and subtitle options. Good news for Japan, which previously had seen only a theatrical release of the films. This included both a standard and limited edition of both. The last DVDs released domestically from ADV were pretty much completely terrible, so we can certainly expect this version to be a vast improvement.Sailor Moon Eternal was released on DVD and Blu-ray in Japan on June 30th. Based on comments made in an Anime News Network interview it would appear that the work has been done using post processing rather that going back to the original film source. The first season and movies are in 480p, progressive scan, though Sailor Moon R, S, SuperS and SailorStars have only ever been released on interlaced 480i DVDs in Japan to date. The DVD releases currently available in Japan are standard definition releases. The video is mentioned to be the remastered version from Japan, though details on this remastering process are not currently known. The dub will be released with the DVD and Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack releases at a later date.

The subtitled digital download releases will begin in Summer 2014 with season 1 part 1. These new releases will also be on DVD and Blu-Ray. Though fans would love to see their favourite voice actors reprise their role there has been no indication one way or another that this will be the case. Anime Expo will be having as guests a number of voice actors from the original dub of the Sailor Moon anime, including Linda Ballantyne, Sailor Moon, Katie Griffin, Sailor Mars, Stephanie Morgenstern, Sailor Venus, Karen Bernstein, Sailor Mercury, Susan Roman, Sailor Jupiter, Toby Proctor, Tuxedo Mask, Mary Long, Molly, Ron Rubin, Artemis and John Stocker, voice director. This will likely be taking place on Sailor Moon Day, which is being held July 5th. Details about the cast of the new dub will be announced at Anime Expo in Los Angeles the weekend of July 3rd to the 6th. The new dub will be released streaming in late 2014. Viz has also acquired the rights to the three Sailor Moon movies and the specials. This new release will be retaining all original names and story arcs, be completely unedited, and include all 200 episodes, including Sailor Stars which has never previously been released in North America and the 7 episodes from the first two seasons which were never dubbed. In addition to this subtitled release a whole new dub is being produced. The streaming subbed episodes will be released every Monday starting with the first four episodes which will be released on Neon Alley and Hulu with two new episode being released every Monday after that.
